Dr. Franziska Pilling is a multidisciplinary design researcher, artist, animator, and lecturer in Design at Manchester Metropolitan University. Her research and creative practice focus on the socio-technical implications of emerging technologies through world-building and environmentally immersive scenographic installations.

Her approach resides within the broader fields of Speculative Design, Design Fiction, and experiential futures. These fields involve merging together real and potential advancements of emerging technologies, and considering the cultural context in which they may be applied. Franziska also frequently collaborates with scientists and technologists to enhance the communication of science and technology through visual storytelling, animation, and experience design. Her research sits at the intersection of human and artificial creativity, the philosophy of artificial intelligence, and more-than-human worlds, with her approach manifesting as 'research through design'.

Her work and research have been exhibited internationally at the V&A London, London Design Festival, arebyte Gallery, Grizedale Art Centre and Madison Square Gardens.  

Additionally, Franziska is regularly invited to give seminars, lectures, and talks at universities, conferences, and festivals.
